Acclaimed monologist Mike Daisey is in town for WaterTower Theatre's 9th Annual Out of the Loop Fringe Festival. He's currently in the middle of his four-part monologue series Great Men of Genius, which tackles the megalomania of P.T. Barnum, Bertolt Brecht, Nikola Tesla and L. Ron Hubbard, in that order.
In this first video interview with TheaterJones, he discusses choosing those specific figures, and why they appear in that order. He also talks about using scribbled notes, as opposed to memorizing a script, in his performances; and his use of adult language and thoughts on word choice.
In forthcoming videos, he will talk about his controversial work How Theater Failed America, which he'll perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 8.
You can catch up on our reviews of each piece here, which will be updated throughout the festival.
